Sit in Kayak vs. Sit on Top kayak?

Looking for a Kayak but am not sure which model to go with.

New to Kayaking and looking for a tandem kayak to be used on lakes / rivers and possible inter coastal, recreational use and fishing
Not sure which way to go. Solo won’t work. Need either a Tandem Kayak or go with Canoe (not a huge fan of canoes)

Need multipurpose for the family but preferably fishing when possible. Can go with recreational model but outfit it if possible – not just add a rod holder. Want it to still look cool.

Will use on lakes – small river and possible inter coastal in South Carolina.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Budget conscious so please no .. Hobie responses. I would love to get one if I could. I can’t.

Has anyone hear of Crescent Kayaks? If so, am looking for real reviews.
Thank you

Sit on top tandem kayak? What’s it good for?

I’m looking at buying an inexpensive sit on top tandem kayak.

I’ve been around boats a bit — crewed on tall ships and motor vessels, and have done a bit of whitewater rafting and am swiftwater rescue certified at the tech level.

Given all that, if it’s a very basic sit on top (and I have zero experience with them), what’s the learning curve? Is it pretty safe for my (life vest wearing) 6 year old on ponds and lakes? How do they respond to currents? Is it a craft I could — after getting used to it — take out in reasonably calm ocean water? On rivers?

If my dad visits and wants to use it for trout fishing on the lake, will it work for him?

Thanks in advance!! 😀

Help for a Kayak Beginner?

I would like to start kayaking. I mostly would like to kayak on still lakes and down slow moving rivers. I live in michigan so the weather is always changing.
What is a good beginners kayak I would like to spend under $500 if that’s possible. Is sit on the best bet or sit in. i’m 5’3 125lbs. So something I could easily move not too heavy and I dont want an inflatable. No whitewater for now, just take in scenic views and fishing. I would be kayaking by myself , i don’t want to join a club, is kayaking by yourself not recommended?
