Looking for suggestions for an adventurous Carribean holiday?

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to the Carribean in Jan ’09. There’s so many islands to choose from. We want adventure, culture and fun. Sitting on the beach or at a resort all day isn’t our cup of tea. Fishing, kayaking, hiking, etc is what we are looking for. Any ideas?? Thoughts?

The best fishing island I think is The Cayman Islands.

Horse back riding, country tours (banana plantations. rivers and falls, mountains) going up to the Blue Mountains(hiking), water sports, National Dance Theater (during their season), local artists, wood sculpture, Bob Marley Museum,
Liberty Castle in Oracabessa, St. Mary Eco-adventure rasta style….
Mineral Waters in Bathe St. Thomas, don’t miss that.
    Jamaica has it all.
It is the largest English speaking island in the Caribbean, with quite a variety.

Puerto Rico Definitely! You sound just like me. PR has so much to do, you can never be bored. Puerto RIco has a ton of culture. Go to Old San Juan & you will see the spanish architecture & cobblestone streets with cool boutiques & artisan shops. You can eat authentic puerto rican food & see all the historical sights. El Morro Fort is a must see. There is also alot of festivals & nightlife here too. Then you can explore outside of San Juan also. The island is small enough so you can travel anywhere with in a few hours, but big enough to have plenty to see.

You can go to El Yunque rain forest. You can hike or walk trails & swim in waterfalls like La mina. There is also a bioluminescent Bay nearby. This is a body of water that glows in the dark. Its amazing! You take a kayak through the mangroves to get to the bay. There are only a few in the world. PR has the best. Las Croabas Lagoon & Mosquito bay are the best ones. Rio Camuy Caves is also a spectacular sight. You can take a regualr tour or explore more in depth. There is also Arecibo Telescope close by. Its the worlds largest radio telescope. Rincon on the wet has beautiful sunsets, great surfing & whale watching. Ponce in the souht is a cool city with Seralles Castle & Guanica dry forest close by. You can rent a car & drive the whole island. The central area has great mountain views while the edges are all pristine beaches. Culebra & Vieques islands are great for white sand seluded beaches also. Oh & the best fishing & snorkelling is on the east coast in Fajardo or Culebra & Vieques close by. Have fun!

Curacao has got all of those and a great weather all year round. Fishing trips are offered on many boats, trips to the small island off the coast, where diving and snorkeling are at their best, kayaking possibilities all along the south west side of the island, hiking and biking trips offered in and around the national parks, the largest ostrich farm outside of Africa and a whole lot more.
