I will never forget the first time I caught a bass. I was probably about 8 years old. It was a small-mouth bass and I caught it in my grandparent’s pond.
I remember I was slowly reeling a black rubber long frog-looking bait. Back then when I fished all the time I could tell you what it was. And then I felt something grab hold of it and start swimming with it. And I saw it jump out of the water and my heart was beating so fast and hard! I actually caught a bass! It was a nice size, I would say 14 inches long, 3 to 4 lbs maybe.
Of course we always threw our fish back to catch them another day. I never caught that one again though.
That was my favorite and most memorable.
But my best are just going surf-fishing at night. Didn’t matter to me if I catched anything or not, it was just so relaxing. Sometimes I’d take a cigar out with me and just think. I remember catching a couple of bluefish, those are fun to catch. They give a good fight.
HEY WENT FISHING FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER LAST SUMMER WITH MY BOYFRIEND, IT WAS GETTING LATE AND WE WERE ABOUT TO GIVE UP AND I TOLD HIM I WAS GONNA CAST ONE MORE TIME. SO I DID AND I CAUGHT A BASS HE SAID IT WAS PROBABLY 1 1/2 TO 2 LBS. BUT WHEN I GOT IT UP TO THE DOCK HIS COUSINS DOG WAS STANDING BEHIND ME AND I TRIPPED OVER THE DOG AND THE FISH JUMPED OFF THE DOCK. IT WAS THE MOST EXCITING AND DEPRESSING TIME I’D HAD NEVER CAUGHT ANOTHER ONE ALL SUMMER. BUMMER!!! BY THE WAY I WAS 32 LAST SUMMER. YEAH, FIRST TIME EVER.
I don’t know much about fishing but my memorable fishing moment was the first time i caught a fish. All my friends were trying to catch a big fish but no luck and then my fishing line hooked up on a tiny small golden colored fish. My friends were like oh ok its just a small fish but i was very proud to catch my first fish.
Couple years ago, me and a buddy fishing in the rain. It was somewhere around 4-5pm he was catching nearly every “small” Largemouth Bass in that lake lol. I can’t say anything though, those dang little freakers just wouldn’t leave our lures alone long enough for anything else to hit it. Around 5:30-6pm near dark. We heaed to shallow water and was fishing around a bunch of old tree stumps sticking out of the water, the water was no deeper than 3 feet. Like 5 mins of arriving in the shallow water, my buddys top-water got busted. 8 lb female. He was sitting there bragging and bragging, so I tied on a Jitterbug. I have never seen such a hit on one of those things in my life. The bragging stopped though, after about 10 minutes fighting with it. Weighted in at 11.3 lbs
My favorite and most memorable are totally different, LOL, I’ll tell you some time.
Anyways, my favorite times have always been with my kids. For both of them, it started when they were toddlers, and I have fond memories of many occasions with them. My son put a hook in my thumb while I was baiting his hook when he was 3 (he’s almost 21 now), I still have the scar, and I still smile when I think about that trip. I took my daughter (stream) trout fishing, just me and her, and she cast into a deep pool along a curve of the bank, and BAM, 5 pound brown, (okay, it was a stocked one, but still…). The kids and I have fished trout, walleye, flounder, lakers, salmon, bass, northern and many more together, so much fun, I can’t pick just one favorite time.
Good job on your bass this weekend, it’s fun to catch a 5+ pounder, especially in northern waters.
Good luck fishing your next time out 🙂
With my dad.He passed away several years ago and I will always miss our fishing times together.I miss you dad.
Any time I take my 4 boys out fishing is my best time. They have reawakened that feeling of awe whenever they reel in ANY fish, no matter how small or large. It doesn’t matter if it is a 3″ chub, or a bright silver fresh run #30 salmon, it is all good to them.
