If you have a Academy Sporting Goods store locally, they have some really good priced kayaks under 300.00. Another option would look at Craigslist under your area and chances are you might find a good used one there.

Look on the local kayaking website http://www.kayakfisherman.com. There’s a classified section and you can usually get something nice for a lot less. Many of the members are in the Houston/Galveston area. I’ve bought several kayaks that retail for $1000+ for only $400. If you have your heart set on a 10′ yak, I’d suggest an Ocean Caper or a Mini X
There’s a lot of good information on the message board (www.texaskayakfisherman.com) and ideas about where to launch and where the fish are biting. I would also recommend Ray Crawford’s book about kayak launch sites if you are just getting into kayaking. Sign on and take a look.

“good” 10′ kayak… that’s an oxymoron, like jumbo shrimp, or military intelligence. You seem to have settled on 10′ as the ideal length, for whatever reason… couldn’t be from reading any reviews by kayak fishermen. There’s not much of any discernible differences between one 10′ hunk of plastic and another, so just get the cheapest one you can find. When you get serious about kayak fishing, post a message, and you’ll get some good advice, I’m sure.
