Kayak Fishing Tips

Kayak fishing is quickly gaining in popularity, and because of this, there are more and more people who are looking for the best kayak fishing tips, or any kayak fishing tip really.  Thankfully though, there are only a few tips for kayak fishing that you need to think about.  Safety, the rigging of your kayak, and the way you set the hook while you are on such a small craft.  Once you have taken these tips into account, and practice them on a regular basis, you are going to be able to ensure that you have a much more exciting, and safer day.

The first of the essential kayak fishing tips that you must focus on is your safety while you are on the water.  It doesn’t matter what type or size of body of water you are fishing on, you must wear your life vest at all times.  Even in the most shallow of waters, if your kayak flips and you hit your head, becoming knocked unconscious, you are going to be thankful that you had it on.  Make sure that you purchase a vest that is designed to keep your head facing up, to make sure that your face will be out of the water until you become conscious again.

As long as you are always wearing your safety vest, you can then focus on how you plan to rig your kayak.  This is the funnest part of kayak fishing in my opinion, because you can either design your own gear, or simply purchase the accessories from an online retailer.  Either way, you want to make sure everything is properly strapped down to the boat, including your crate and it’s contents, your paddle, rods and reels, and any other loose items that will sink to the bottom should you flip.

The last thing that you want to think about, and probably one of the best kayak fishing tips of all, outside of wearing your life vest at all times, has got to be in the way that you set the hook on a fish.  When you are casting on the water, make sure that the nose of your kayak is pointing towards your lure at all times.  This helps with casting distance, but when it comes time to set the hook on a fish, your energy is transferred through the length of the boat, instead of being dispersed into the water.  This means that you get much stronger hooksets every time.  Have any kayak fishing tips that you know about?  Leave a comment!
