you really dont unless u catch something big like a shark because then it will drag u threw the water. but u should be good without an anchor.

You need an anchor for those times when the wind turns and starts to blow you offshore. If you get too tired, or an injury hampers your paddling, you can anchor and rest up.
There are times you might want to anchor and hold on a hot fishing spot also…
